Nintendo hikes Switch 2 sales forecast to 19 million units as flagship console momentum grows
Nintendo raised its forecast for sales of the Switch 2 console in its current fiscal year as momentum for its new flagship console grows. The Japanese gaming giant said it now expects to sell 19 million units of the Switch in the fiscal year ending March 2026 versus a previous forecast of 15 million units.
Nintendo launched the Switch 2 game console, the successor to the highly successful Switch, in June. The Switch 2 launch, coupled with a higher unit price compared to the Switch, pushed up Nintendo's overall revenue.
The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to be the fastest-selling console of all time, despite early fan anger over the pricing of games and upgrades.
The Switch 2 has sold more than 10 million units in its first four months of availability, much more than the 4.7 million consoles the original Switch sold in four months upon launch in 2017.
Nintendo is now predicting that it'll sell 19 million Switch 2 consoles by the end of its current financial year, up from previous predictions.
The company is now expecting to sell 19 million Switch 2 units by March 2026.
On the back of these numbers, Nintendo raised its sales forecast for Switch 2 in the current financial year from 15 million to 19 million units. This would make the Switch 2 Nintendo’s biggest seller over its first year, ahead of the Game Boy Advance (18.1 million).
As a result of this Switch 2 sales performance, Nintendo has increased its projection for sales of the Switch 2 from 15 million units to 19 million sold by the end of March 2026, which is the conclusion of Nintendo’s fiscal year. Meanwhile, Nintendo as lowered its projections for the Switch from 4.5 million for the fiscal year to 4 million.
