The city-wide food drive will come to a close this week. Despite Wednesday’s deadline for the drive, food insecurity will continue in the heartland. The SNAP benefit pause is impacting about 155,000 people in Nebraska and more than 270,000 in Iowa, according to the USDA.
Millions of Americans are on track to lose their food assistance in a matter of days as the government shutdown continues. Many local communities, meal sites and food banks are stepping up their efforts to host food drives and feed more people.
