Ohio State, Indiana likely 1-2 in initial CFP rankings with Texas A&M, Bama in line for No. 3
The College Football Playoff committee releases its initial rankings Tuesday, and there will be plenty of debate among fans and pundits in the following days.
No. 45 Baylor (+13): Sawyer Robertson cooled the temps around Waco just a bit with three touchdown passes to lead the Bears in a 30-3 runaway win against UCF. The victory puts Baylor back over .500 on the year now at 5-4, but making a bowl game will still be a challenge with games against Utah, Arizona and Houston left on the schedule.
According to ESPN's FPI, Alabama also currently has a projected win/loss record of 10.9-2.0, and have a 31.5% chance to win out. The Crimson Tide also have a 54.2% chance to win the SEC, 92.5% to make the College Football Playoff, 24.4% to make the national title game, and 11.7% to win it.
Jeff Sagarin, a sports computer rankings expert, is still refining his system for evaluating college football teams at 77, despite knowing perfection is impossible.
No. 8 BYU (8-0): The Cougars cleared their first major Big 12 test by toppling rival Utah in the Holy War, but November brings two tricky road hurdles -- at Texas Tech and at Cincinnati -- that could define their playoff fate. BYU was 9-0 last season before losing consecutive games in the final month.
